RapidIO.org 2013 Asia Global Design Summits in Taipei, Shanghai and Beijing

RapidIO.org hosted four meetings in Asia to help leading companies in the region better understand RapidIO technology and to see the complete eco-system available to support their RapidIO designs.  Hosted by RapidIO.org members, the 2013 Global Design Summit presentations and demonstrations were supplied by member companies that included: Fabric Embedded tools, Freescale, Integrated Device Technology (IDT), Mobiveil, Prodrive and Texas Instruments. Barry Wood from IDT and RapidIO.org Technical Working Group Chair attended events in Shanghai and Beijing and was impressed with the level of enthusiasm from attendees.  “All of the OEMs that I spoke to were keen to create real systems today with RapidIO.”

Another member presenter, Ravi Thummarukudy from Mobiveil, stated, “As someone involved with RapidIO technology for over a decade, I was extremely pleased with the enthusiastic participation of the electronics design community.  There was much appreciation of the contribution of the RapidIO technology in wireless base stations and in other high reliable applications.  But what was most exciting was the announcement of the new 10xN specifications and its applications in the emerging ARM based server designs.  RapidIO is gaining momentum because of the technical superiority of the protocol combined with its simplicity and reliability.

The free, full-day events included technical sessions highlighting RapidIO technology, applications examples in wireless, embedded, imaging, aerospace, medical and video. The event also covered software considerations, practical design recommendations, and RapidIO products including progress on the 10xN specification as well as the Data Center Compute and Networking task group initiative. Technical personnel from RapidIO member companies provided a unique opportunity for attendees to interact directly with RapidIO technology experts and get their specific questions answered.
