Description:: The interchassis communication XMC daughtercard uses high-bandwidth serial RapidIO® over fiber connections to tightly link multiple chassis into a single, cohesive system. Each XMC connects 8-bit parallel RapidIO from the XMC connectors to 4X serial RapidIO cables. The serial RapidIO is transmitted and received over fiber by four Lucent® connector (LC), small form factor (SFF) style fiber-optic transceivers operating at 2.5 Gbaud.

The interchassis communication XMC daughtercard is transparent to the application software. Data transfers between RapidIO nodes look the same whether within a single chassis or between chassis.
