RapidIO Connections - February 2004
Word from the President
The RapidIO Trade Association made an important announcement on January 19, 2004. We issued a supporting statement press release with participation from 14 companies, including major OEMs, semiconductor and software vendors. These members reaffirmed their commitment to the RapidIO technology and to the development of products based on the RapidIO technology. A copy of this press release can be accessed through this newsletter. The addition of the auditing participation membership class has also been well received with several companies joining at that level already. We have also added the following companies as regular members or auditing participants to the Trade Association within the last year: DRS Signal Solutions, Erlang Technology, Jennic, Nexus Technology, Praesum Communications, Radstone, Rapid Prototypes and Telesoft Technologies. The technical working group continues to advance the state of the art with task groups examining standard approaches for protocol encapsulation and traffic management as well as next-generation higher-speed serial physical layers. We also have a group establishing software APIs for system bringup. In December we announced the completion of the ISO/IEC approval process and the ratification of the RapidIO interconnect specification as International Standard 18372. We thank all of those who worked so hard to make this happen. The status of RapidIO as an international standard is an important consideration for companies doing business in a multinational environment. As our world continues to shrink and trade becomes truly global, true, recognized international standards becomes more important. Vendors of RapidIO products will obtain enhanced worldwide business opportunities for their products as a result of this standards work. If you are not already a part of the RapidIO community, I invite you to join us as we continue to make RapidIO Real in 2004! Best Regards,
