Executive Director’s Perspective

May in Ottawa marks an interesting transition from winter directly to summer. Unlike other places where I have lived, there is no prolonged spring season. It seems that one day we are shoveling snow and the next we are watching baseball and cutting our grass! At the RapidIO Trade Association, we expect a similar, almost instantaneous transition of serial RapidIO products being newly launched and these products entering full production.

When I stood up at the Bus & Boards Conference in January, I spoke about "2005: the year of RapidIO", the year when serial RapidIO products come to market and we have everything from DSPs to processors to switches to systems available in the ecosystem. Attendees were cautious, adopting a ‘seeing is believing’ perspective. As such, the difference between having no products to announce and having six as we did in our first quarter summary press release, was huge. During the numerous discussions and briefings I have conducted with the press and analysts over the last couple of months, the change in positioning of RapidIO has been equally significant.

Serial RapidIO is already making substantial gains, and with the steady stream of RapidIO product announcements scheduled for the coming months, its momentum is bound to increase.
