The RapidIO® Trade Association Names New Officers, Steering Committee Members
Launching another year of strong stewardship of the RapidIO standard by leaders in the embedded industry, the RapidIO Trade Association announced new officers and steering committee members: now serving as Chair is Dave Wickliff from Lucent Technologies, the new Vice-Chair is Peter Olanders from Ericsson, Sam Fuller from AMCC continues as Treasurer, and Gary Robinson from EMC remains as Secretary. Wind River joins the steering committee represented by Tomas Evansen. Representatives from Freescale Semiconductor, Mercury Computer Systems, PMC-Sierra, Texas Instruments and Tundra Semiconductor remain on the steering committee.
RapidIO Connections spent time with a few members of the steering committee to learn about their experience and vision for the future:
- Tomas Evensen is Chief Technology Officer at Wind River where he is responsible for future technologies and architectures. He is also Senior Director for VxWorks Engineering and is responsible for all VxWorks Platforms Releases.
"As part of the RapidIO Steering Committee I will work to bring more discussions and solutions to enable standardization of the software stack on top of the hardware."
- Peter Olanders works in Research Management for Ericsson AB, a company he has worked with for 13 years. In addition, he serves as Chairman, Competence Center for Circuit Design at Lund University. He has supported numerous organizations dedicated to driving technical standards throughout his career. Olanders holds 15 patents in the area of personal telecommunications, cordless telecom and other technologies.
"My objectives in the RapidIO Trade Association Steering Committee are to finalize standardization, work toward increasing the number of products on the market, and ensure RapidIO technology has an adequate eco-system."
- Greg Shippen is a System Architect for Freescale Semiconductor’s Digital Systems Division and the new Freescale representative on the RapidIO Trade Association steering committee. He previously served as chair of the Technical Working Group for three years and shares his extensive technical knowledge of the standard in various educational forums.
"In my new role on the RapidIO Trade Association steering committee, I will expand my focus on RapidIO beyond specification development to ensuring we are adequately promoting the full capabilities of this scalable, high-performance fabric."
